On the day the world may mint its first trillionaire, I’m publishing a book of questions. It’s free all weekend once the kindle promo kicks in!
Today SpaceX trades publicly for the first time. Depending on where the ticker closes, today may be the day the world gets its first trillionaire. I wrote about the IPO math in an earlier post — the flip windows, the tax drag, the distance between the story everyone’s telling and the position size that actually makes sense.
Let me be straight about who’s writing this: I’m a capitalist. Unapologetically. I wrote an entire book about asymmetric bets — Book 10 in this series is literally called The Moonshot Portfolio. I believe in ownership, compounding, and swinging at the right pitches. Nothing about today offends me.
And yet what I keep thinking about this morning isn’t the ticker.
It’s the other economy — the one I’ve worked in for almost thirty years. Because while one man’s net worth may cross a line no human’s ever crossed, somewhere today a friend of mine is doing the math on a tuition bill. A family member is quietly deciding which card to put the groceries on. A client is sitting in my conference room figuring out how to keep the lights on through a bankruptcy he never saw coming — medical bills, a divorce, a job that vanished. Not reckless people. People life happened to.
Both of those Americas are real today. And here’s the thing three decades across the desk taught me: in both of them — the frenzy and the crisis — outcomes are decided the same way. By the quality of the question the person is actually answering. The investor chasing the rocket and the father staring at the shutoff notice are both, in that moment, usually answering the wrong one.
So today, of all days, I’m publishing the questions.
Book 11: The Reconstruction Questions — The 50 Questions That Change What You Do Next is live now, Kindle and paperback: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H4SWNF5J
It’s priced at $0.99 on purpose — and it’s free on Kindle all weekend. On trillionaire day, the cost of getting a better question into your head is zero. That asymmetry I can offer.
Where these questions came from
For almost thirty years of bankruptcy and family law practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, I’ve sat across the desk from people on the worst day — the day after the diagnosis, the day before the filing, the week the papers were served. The legal steps were the easy part. What changed outcomes was never in any script. It was a question, asked at the right moment, that made the person stop defending their story and look at their situation.
This book is those questions, written down. Fifty of them, organized into the five stages every reconstruction moves through:
See Clearly — strip away the version of events that makes you feel better, or worse, than reality. Stabilize — stop the bleeding: financial, legal, physical, emotional. Rebuild — construct the second act deliberately instead of drifting into it. Protect — build the systems so you never live this same crisis twice. Advance — once the floor holds, play offense again.
A few of them, so you know what you’re getting:
What story am I telling myself about this situation that isn’t completely true?
What have I been calling patience that is actually avoidance?
What is the most expensive mistake I’m at risk of making in the next 30 days?
What’s the asymmetric bet I should be making right now that I’m not?
No inspirational fluff. No hustle. Prompts that make it hard to keep lying to yourself in the ways that are costing you the most.
Why I write any of this down
I’ve watched too many people try to rebuild after a crisis the hard way: randomly, alone, with no system beyond panic and Google. Meanwhile, the boring, compounding stuff kept working — in my law practice, in my own training, and in a real estate run where I held my own license and bought, managed, and sold more than fifty working-class properties over the years. Most of those I’ve since deliberately exited into passive structures; that exit playbook became its own book in this series. The pattern across all of it is the same: stop reacting, run a system, get the incentives and the math working in your favor again. At some point it felt irresponsible not to write it down — even if that meant a second accidental career learning Amazon’s algorithms, which they did not cover in law school.
How to use it
Don’t read it cover to cover — it isn’t built that way. Every question sits on its own page with room to write. Open anywhere, pick the one that stings, and sit with it for ten minutes. Write the messy, incomplete answer. Some questions take three sentences. Some take a year. A few are worth re-answering every six months for the rest of your life — date your answers and you’ll own the most honest progress report you’ve ever had.
If three of these questions change what you do this week, the book did its job.
Where it fits in the series
The Reconstruction System is ten books built for adults rebuilding after divorce, bankruptcy, midlife disruption, or a life that quietly stopped fitting — the four pillars every recovery runs on: Law, Money, Body, Identity.
Book 1 — The Reconstruction (the operating system) · Book 2 — The Bankruptcy Reconstruction · Book 3 — The Divorce Reconstruction · Book 4 — The Reconstruction Fitness Guide · Book 5 — The Reconstruction Real Estate System · Book 6 — The Investing Reconstruction · Book 7 — The Reconstruction Identity · Book 8 — The 50+ Body Reconstruction · Book 9 — The Invisible Landlord (the exit playbook) · Book 10 — The Moonshot Portfolio
All of them: https://www.amazon.com/author/davidreinherz
Book 11 sits beside the other ten as the companion volume. The ten books are the architecture — the frameworks, the case files, the operating systems. The fifty questions are the doorways: they surface what actually needs to change in your situation, so you know which book, which chapter, which tool to reach for next.
What to do this weekend
Grab the workbook while it’s free. Open it anywhere. Answer one question in writing before Monday. If you want more structure around it, the free Toolkit — the 72-hour triage checklist and the diagnostic dashboard — is at https://www.TheReconstructionSystem.com/toolkit.
And if one question shifts a real decision for you, a two-sentence review on the Amazon page does more for this book’s reach than anything I can do myself.
Somewhere today, a man may become a trillionaire. Somewhere today, someone I know is figuring out how to put food on the table. I can’t do much about the first, and I’ve spent thirty years working on the second. What I know for certain is that both stories — and yours — turn on the same hinge: the question you’re actually answering. The ticker will still be there Monday. Start with the question.
If this helped, subscribe — the system continues in writing, free. The Reconstruction™ Series — all eleven books: https://www.amazon.com/author/davidreinherz
